K9 Deputy Stryker Dies of Cancer

penniesf January 3rd, 2008

Retired K9 Deputy Stryker was humanely euthanized on Christmas Day. He had been recently diagnosed with a form of rapid onset cancer.

Deputy Stryker was the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office longest-serving K-9 and had racked up a record of over 447 captures in his long and distinguished career. He had also donated countless hours of service to Pennies for Puppies and Ponies and was our “partner,” as well as Deputy Jim Gibson’s, his K9 handler (and owner in retirement).

Deputy Gibson noted that Stryker enjoyed his retirement, carefully guarding Deputy Gibson’s daughter as well as her bunnies, chickens, pheasants, as well as the other members of his family’s menagerie. Stryker was also a constant companion of Deputy Gibson’s wife on her morning jogs.

K9 Stryker will be greatly missed by all who knew him and worked with him. A special service will be held in January to honor the memory of this fine K9 hero.
