This year the Evergreen State Fair will be celebrating its 100th anniversary beginning August 21st (the fair runs through September 1st). The fairgrounds, located in Monroe, Washington will be the site of 12 days of exciting family-oriented entertainment with something for everyone. From music, to food, livestock and small animal husbandry, to world-class entertainment and with automobile races, rodeo, and fireworks on any given day, attendees can expect to have a fantastic experience at the fair.
Once again, the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office Mounted Patrol Unit will be part of the security team, augmenting the other deputies working the grounds. Look for P.H. Slick, P.H. Shaker, P.H. Willie B., and P.H. Willy and say “hello!”

KLA-HA-YA Days, the City Of Snohomish’s annual community event runs from July 17th to July 20th. One of its feature events is the TOP FOODS SUNSET PARADE scheduled this year for Saturday, July 19th beginning at 6PM. The expanded parade route on First Street starts on West First Street (near where the Farmers Market was held) and heads east to Lincoln Street. Come out and see the amazing drill teams, equestrian units, and of course your Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office Mounted Patrol Unit.

The annual Arlington Fly-In is scheduled for July 9 – July 13, 2008. This exciting, family-oriented event hosts numerous flight demonstrations, including the War Birds and other historic aircraft, as well as ground-based booths, demonstrations, etc. during its five day run. Music, military equipment demonstrations, as well as a demonstration by the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office Air Support Unit. And expect to see the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office Mounted Unit on patrol at the event.

The "25th Annual National Night Out" (NNO) has been scheduled for Tuesday, August 5, 2008. One of the feature events in Snohomish County will be held in Goldbar, Washington. In addition to the annual NNO parade, cookout, and children’s carnival, there will be several entries from the Snohomish County Sheriff’’s Office including the Mounted Unit, the bomb squad, and a fly-in and demonstration by one of the sheriff’s office helicopter units. This is an excellent opportunity to meet the police officers and sheriff’s deputies serving the Goldbar area and in particular, a chance to get to know some of the police horses.
Last year’s National Night Out event in Goldbar was a huge success that was attended by several hundred neighbors and friends. It was a clear statement that the citizens of Goldbar are eager to work with law enforcement agencies to make their community safer.

2008 Marysville Strawberry Festival Twilight Grand Parade is scheduled for June 21, 2008. This year is the 77th Annual Marysville Strawberry Festival (June 13-22) and is highlighted by the Twilight Grand Parade at 8PM. on Saturday, June 21 along State Ave. culminating in a giant fireworks display. It is preceded by the Kiddies Parade at 6PM In addition to the parades, the festival hosts the famous “Market in the Park,” a fair food and vendor booths, live music (the K-9 Koncert), kids entertainment, adult trike races, carnival, golf tournament, fashion show and much more await! The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office Mounted Patrol Unit will be one of many groups providing security at the annual Marysville (Washington) Strawberry Festival on June 21st. Sgt. Aston/P.H. Dep. Shaker, Det. Willoth/P.H. Dep. Willy, and Dep. Shefveland/P.H. Dep. Slick will be working both the parade route as well as the back streets.

The Encounters will be headlining the annual K-9 Koncert in Marysville, Washington to be held on Sunday, June 22nd as part of the annual Stawberry Fesitival. In addition to great music, there will be several food and product booths as well as carnival rides for the children. The event is being held at Asberry Field (behind Totem Middle School) at 4th and Alder in Marysville and will run from 12:00PM to 4:00PM.
Featured at the event (which benefits the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office K-9 and Mounted units) will be several of the sheriff’s office K-9 deputies as well as mounted deputies with their k-9 and equine partners. Citizens will have an opportunity to meet and talk to the deputies as well as see a brief demonstration by them.

The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office will be one of the featured attractions at the first annual Lake Stevens (WA) Health and Safety Fair to be held on Saturday, June 14th at Lundeen Park. Sgt. Anthony Aston and his police horse, Deputy Shaker as well as Dep. Ken Shefveland and police horse Deputy Slick will be on hand to meet and greet the attendees and answer an questions regarding the mounted unit, specifically and/or the sheriff’s office in general.

The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office Mounted Patrol Unit will be the special guests of the Evergreen Speedway at the final race of the year on Saturday, September 29th. Working with the “Pennies for Puppies and Ponies” foundation, the Speedway will play host to a special 50/50 raffle with 50% of the proceeds planned to be donated to the Mounted Patrol Unit and 50% slated to be awared to the citizen with the winning ticket that they will be puchasing at the races (contestants must be present to win). In addition to being presented to the audience a member of the unit will be granted the honor of drawing the winning ticket and awarding, what has historically been a handsome sum of money to the winner.

Thursday, August 23rd marks the first day of the 99th annual Evergreen State Fair ( http://www.evergreenfair.org ) in Monroe, Washington. The event runs for 12 days, ending on September, 3rd (Labor Day). This is a grand family event with activities and exhibits for everyone. As importantly, the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office Mounted Patrol Unit will be at the event working in the parking lots and on the exhibit grounds and we understand one of the Office’s K9 deputies will be at the P.A.C.E. booth. So come on out, “be somebunny,” say hello to our K9 and Equine deputies, and enjoy the fair!

The public is invited to “A REAL Dog and Pony Show” on Friday, July 13th, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM located at the Snohomish County Courthouse/Administration Main Campus in Everett, Washington. The event, sponsored by the Pennies for Puppies and Ponies foundation will showcase the Patrol and Search and Rescue K-9 Units and Mounted Patrol of the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office and County Volunteer Search and Rescue K-9 teams, as well as the work of the Snohomish Regional Drug Task Force and their efforts to combat drugs. Demonstrations will be held and the Sheriff’s new K-9, Deputy LIDAR, will be commissioned. Pennies for Puppies and Ponies T-shirts, coloring book, and bottled water will be available for purchase. The costs to support these Special Operations Units are partially offset by Pennies for Puppies and Ponies, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
